Hi everyone,

Well it's not really an announcement, considering we've announced this some time ago. But here is an official thread for the next iteration of the grand Dismount franchise.

As mentioned in the SD2 thread, Stair Dismount Touch is an iPhone & iPod touch edition of Stair Dismount. The game engine is an adaptation of the technology we prepared for SD2, and as such has a much improved ragdoll simulation, UI and graphics compared to the freeware originals.

For those so inclined, we're also chatting about the game on Touch Arcade:
SDT thread on TA (http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?threadid=6645)

No confirmed release date yet, there are still plenty of features to implement and polish and polish...

Also, will you start with the PC version now?

Now it's a couple days of recover from the crunch, then getting the word out as much as we can, then wait and see if people are willing to buy the game.

There are some improvements that we're planning to add to the iPhone version depending on how its sales turn out. The planned updates aren't little things, and will still take some time to implement.

But the technology base that we have makes it quite feasible to make a PC version. Still, the reality is that we need to see how it goes, and that will probably take at least the holiday season to have any idea of where we are.

The new Zen Bound is going forward as we speak, and it's starting to look really nice :)

So, yeah, we're ready with the initial release of the all new, hot and cool Stair Dismount for iPhone and iPod touch. Hot and cool at the same time, how awesome is that? :D

It's just up to Apple now to review and approve so that it becomes available for purchase. :)

There's now a teaser banner on site front page which leads to here:

I was really excited to see the update to Stair Dismount Touch today to v1.2.0, with online leaderboards and (GASP!) more stairways, but I'm having a problem downloading it...

I can find it in the app store either by searching normally or checking for updates, but installing it from either page does the same thing -- it appears to download normally, the slightly altered version of the icon (Open Feint logo, I guess?) appears during the "Loading/Installing" progress bar process, and then when it's done it reverts to the old icon. Start the program, check the About page or the menu of stairways, and it's clearly still running version 1.1.0.

I updated a bunch of other apps today, they all worked normally.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Is Apple's server feeding the old version by mistake?

...

A tangential question: will I lose my old high scores when the update starts working again? Will I be able to upload them to the leaderboards, or is that for new scores only?

We're having the same problems. The App Store has been having these kind of problems lately, with updates either not coming through properly or the notifications not going away despite the app being up-to-date.

For the online high scores, the leaderboards only accept new scores achieved with the 1.2.0 version of the game.

Thanks, I'll just try again tomorrow and see if Apple's sorted it out.

When Stair Dismount 2 is released for PC, how exactly will you handle those microtransactions/DLC packs? Steamworks has support for microtransactions (http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/ov_micro.php), and I think they suit you perfectly. Your problem would be that you have to send them a demo with a release date, which you don't seem to be very good at :D

I bought the new ragdolls, and I love' em all!!!... but I'm questioning something... If I were to, let's say, restore my iPhone after having make the transaction, does the app automatically save my serial number, or would I have to just buy the guys over again?

The Apple's in-app-purchase system remembers that you have already bought the item, so you will always actually get it free if you have to "buy again" after deleting and then reinstalling the game.

This should hold true for all apps having in-app-purchases, at least most of the time!

I suggest you remove the jailbreak hack from your device and try again.

The game is not pirated I payed for it. My version of the game is 1.4.0 but why should I have to remove my jailbreak just to buy the extra ragdolls.

There is simply no point in offering support for a hacked device. Sorry.

why are you pointing fingers at jailbroken iPhones like having one is a bad thing having a jailbroken iPhones,Ipads, itouches it is completely legal to have a jailbroken device.

Yes, and it's perfectly legal to refuse support for a jailbroken device. Your point?

If the Apple's in-app-purchasing system refuses to work on jailbroken devices, there's nothing we can do about it, other than recommending to removing the jailbreak hack.

Of course you could ask Apple to change this, but somehow I think it won't work.

or you guys could move the game over/make a copy for the cydia/rock store this would be better because there are millions of people who have jailbroke their iPhones/Ipads/itouchs.This should end apple using your game as a antijailbreak solution. For the money issue I'd suggest just combining the original cost of Touch Dismount with the cost of the addons but that's your choice.

It's their playground, they make the rules.

Like I mentioned before, there's no point in supporting hacked devices.

It's kind of like developing games for linux or operating a swimsuit store in an unstable dictatorship.

Too many variables. You can't trust things are going to stay the same. Doing support is a nightmare. You're liable for lawsuits or worse. It might be a violation of the (secret!) developer license.

And as to your claim of "millions of people", I'm pretty sure we'd read the news about all those people who have gotten rich doing jailbroken apps just like we read about the appstore success stories.

In the end, like you said, it IS their choice. But you can affect it by getting a couple thousand people to pre-order the app - at, say, ten times the normal price. It is, after all, like operating a store in an unstable dictatorship.. =)

Apologies for that, but the fact is, making games for "linux" is a bit of a wide target, unless you're planning to release sources and tell people to fix things themselves.

Making games for "ubuntu" makes much more sense, as the target is more defined, and in that case you probably want to define the specific versions you're supporting. Unless you do, it's a support nightmare.

Granted, supporting hacked devices is even more of a support nightmare because:
a) you have no idea what a hacked device might do, and it's entirely unsupported by the device manufacturer.
b) you have no idea what the device manufacturer might do related to said hack, so your "platform" might go away overnight.

At least those two things are not true for linux.
